I don't know about this book, I didn't love it. But I rarely love any book that follows a ton of hype. I should really learn to stay away from them. :)

I've always admired authors who write mystery thrillers. Fitting in all the little details that someone will catch on to if they're reading closely, but they're likely to miss until they all add up in the end. Flynn is a master of this. I'm not even sure where to begin with my thoughts. I've been participating in a Q&A on this, a "answer questions as you read" kind of thing. My feelings for the people in this book have been all over the place. It's so hard to really review this book without giving things away. I admit I was sucked into the suspense, the drama, the wondering how much of what I was reading was true (it's written by two very opposing perspectives and I really liked that aspect). My feelings for the people in this book have been all over the place. It's so hard to really review this book without giving things away. I admit I was sucked into the suspense, the drama, the wondering how much of what I was reading was true (it's written by two very opposing perspectives and I really liked that aspect). I've read so many "I hated the ending" rants and I can see why. This book has stayed with my thoughts for days now. I keep thinking... was the ending a deus ex machina? I'm just not sure. It feels like it when I think of certain things. Felt like the author couldn't come up with a clever way out of the clever traps she set for herself so bam, insert some outrageous scenario to the rescue. As far as the very last few pages, UGH! I can only think of one innocent victim in all of this and if you've read the book you should know to whom I refer. That is what stuck with me as I closed the book. WTF. Ugh. Seriously.

The characters are two of the worst people I've ever met. He was spineless, she was a sociopath. It really isn't so much that Nick was a horrible person, but good grief, I wanted to throttle him because of how dumb he could be about some things. It was crazy being in their heads. Sometimes it was just so absurd, I had to laugh. Honestly, I was floored when the final clue of Amy's anniversary gift was revealed. (view spoiler)

I liked the writing itself, I found the author to be pretty talented at some of the phrases she used, scenarios she set. I simply LOVED the Ellen Abbott character! She had me rolling with laughter, especially considering she was basically inspired by Nancy Grace. HILARIOUS stuff as I read her description and kept picturing Nancy Grace. Gave me giggle fits. Usually for me to keep reading a book, I have to like at least one of the main characters. This is one of the few exceptions--I couldn't stand either one of the main characters, yet I devoured the story of their disintegrating marriage within a few days. Part of what kept me glued to the page was how well Flynn handles the alternating first-person voices. I love first-person POV (which means I'm a little picky about it:) and Flynn uses it to its full advantage here as an in-depth character study ...more

I was really surprised by this novel which took me on twists and turns that I never saw coming (which doesn't happen very often). Not for everyone as the author gives you characters who are not very likable, but that did not keep me from turning the page. ...more

The book was predictable to me. I liked how the author tried to write with twists. The book reminded me of a couple I knew way back that was so dysfunctional. I actually think this book will make a better movie compared to book.
