Gone Girl is an interesting book to say the least. I watched the movie prior to reading the book so I already knew the plot. The twists and turns didn’t surprise me like they did in movie; but I did love how much more you got into the head of Nick and Amy. I feel like the psychopathic nature of Amy can be felt through every line. **Spoiler Alert**. You have been warned, just in case I accidentally give something away!
So here is the gist: it starts out strong, great mystery, great twists, the "big reveal" was a bit predictable, bit not to shabby. But then it starts to go downhill by becoming more grandiose, more far-fetched, and kinda silly. But the worst is that it just ends. Wait, what?! No conclusion? No resolution? Ugh. Thank god that's over. I thought the premise was interesting, but the characters were so despicable and outrageous that I was in a permanently queasy state throughout the book. The depictions of Nick and Amy were a little too heavy-handed for my liking. So much so that any twist or turn or "surprise" reeked of plot device. It's bad enough to poke around the heads of such twisted, manipulative characters, but I really don't appreciate feeling like I have been manipulated as well. ...more

I would be open to trying this again someday. After several failed attempts to really *get into* this story, I've decided to shelve it due to lack of motivation on my part. I unfortunately was spoiled for the ending of this book a long time ago, which has made it difficult for me to care enough to finish it. So, note to future self: NO spoilers. Ever.
I did gain an appreciation for Gillian Flynn's writing, however, so I would be interested in picking up her other novels when I am feeling in the ...more

First of all... I hated the main characters. Especially in the first part when Amy was supposed to be likeable.

Other than that... the writing is lovely, the story is great and all, but I just wanted to take the characters and throw them out of a window or something! Yet they are the perfect couple.

PS: Works better as a film. Loved the film.
