A well-written wet dream of a thirteen year old boy. I would have been annoyed by this book more, if it wasn't written so damn entertaining. But c'mon, Kvothe is such an incredible overachiever, I thought my face would get stuck in a perpetual cringe. Nobody is that amazing! Also, all women he meets are universally beautiful and have a thing for him. Um, no. And if Denna was so tired of men following her, she'd be staying clear of them, instead of jumping from one boyfriend to another... And let ...more

I don't know what I was expecting with this book. I know my expectations were high due to enjoying Patrick Rothfuss for his reviews, humor, and tabletop among other things. I wanted his writing to entertain me as much as he has just by himself.

I was not disappointed.

High fantasy can be...a lot to take in, honestly. And the book is a hefty thing to undertake, but again...I was not disappointed.

Audiobook Notes at the End

I really enjoyed The Name of the Wind. I thought it was a unique approach to deconstruct the hero and make him seem more like everyone else. Most of the epic tales that surround Kvothe are nothing more than misunderstood stories - he takes an herbal remedy to prevent bleeding before a flogging and the rumor spreads that Kvothe does not bleed. He might be quick witted, but he's not as god-like as many make him out to be.
