What Members Thought
It's difficult to describe this book, bearing in mind that I rarely read fantasy, but it is kind of Game of Thrones fused with Harry Potter for adults. Frankly, whatever it is, I thought it was fantastic. I was so drawn into the world, and Kvothe's story, that I would find myself looking up surprised that I was actually in the real world. I will definitely continue this series and perhaps I might say that I could add a new genre to my ever growing list of favourite genres. If all of the fantasy

I can see why so many people love this. It's very engrossing, complete with world building and flushed out characters. This is just not my typical genre. I'm not a huge fan of it and it makes it hard for me to enjoy a story, no matter how good.
also, this was huge. It was just too much for me - probably part of the reason I don't tend to like Fantasy.
But, even with all that, I'm rating it 3 stars. That really shows just how well done the story is. If you like/love fantasy, than this one is a mus ...more

* Back from vacation! (It was lovely, btw.)
I truly enjoyed this book. It's an epic adventure with a great major character. The writing is so good. I think Rothfuss is bloody talented! My only complain would be that... well, I know it's a series, but I feel like this book is just setting up the next books and I personally like it when books from series (especially the first ones) stand on their own too.

I really wanted to be swept off my feet by this book, but I wasn't. Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of traditional fantasy. I was looking for something that might surprise me, but the book was totally what I would expect from the genre.

I like this book. Alot. It does take alot from this reality though. I find the University similar to the University I go to now. I suppose because the fantasy world is so close to ours, its relatable. But those who read for another world wouldn't find this book appealing. I think Kvothe is brilliant. I wish some mysteries would get solved though. Guess I just have to keep reading the rest of the trilogy. :) Its kinda said to see the now-Kvothe waiting to die where as the then-Kvothe such a hero

This book started with a lot of promise and excitement for me. But about 1/3rd of the way through I became bored with the story and it never really picked up for me again. I did finish the book with a lot of questions about different characters and their intentions and back stories. I did enjoy the interludes with the interacations betweek Kote, Chronicaler and Bast and wished that would have been more of the story not just a memoir type thing.
Wonderful! On par or better with other epic fantasies such as The Wheel of Time Saga, The Sword of Truth, or The Song of Fire and Ice.
This book owned me this week. I've GOT to get some stuff accomplished before I buy the next book in the trilogy....
