OMG I'm finally done with this. It was too overwhelming and not all in a great way. Unpopular opinion. Patrick Rothfuss can tell a story and not only A STORY but OMG a story in a story in a story in a story to the point you're asking yourself when will we get back to the first story.

It's difficult to describe this book, bearing in mind that I rarely read fantasy, but it is kind of Game of Thrones fused with Harry Potter for adults. Frankly, whatever it is, I thought it was fantastic. I was so drawn into the world, and Kvothe's story, that I would find myself looking up surprised that I was actually in the real world. Kvothe is known throughout the world but he is currently living in a remote town as a innkeeper waiting to die. The chronicler follows rumors and finds Kvothe. He convinces Kvothe to tell him his life story. Kvothe agrees to tell the story over three nights. This covers the first night which is Kvothe's childhood through his first year at University where he learns to use Sympathy, a form of magic.
Kvothe is okay, though a bit egotistical at times. This book is just very lo

I can see why so many people love this. It's very engrossing, complete with world building and flushed out characters. This is just not my typical genre. I'm not a huge fan of it and it makes it hard for me to enjoy a story, no matter how good.
also, this was huge. It was just too much for me - probably part of the reason I don't tend to like Fantasy.

But, even with all that, I'm rating it 3 stars. That really shows just how well done the story is. If you like/love fantasy, than this one is a mus

Hmm part Harry Potter, part Oliver Twist/Artful Dodger, I still liked this coming-of-age tale about magicians in college. It was a little slow at parts but I liked the detail and the characters. Continuing with book 2.
