What Members Thought

While wil Wheaton is a terrific narrator, the writing is not for me

I have had this book for a while. I put off reading it because I just wasn't sure. You know, the whole male author- male POV thing. It wasn't until friends of mine read this and reviewed it here on goodreads that I remembered I even owned it. But listen. This book was GOOD.
Wade is a gunter. This means nothing to you if you haven't read it, but this pretty much means that he's a geeky, nerdy badass. He's one of the millions of people who are on a quest for the hidden Easter Egg that will make him ...more

This book took me far too long to read and I feel like it kept me from reading in a way, because I continued to struggle through it and didn't allow myself to really start anything new (which I luckily gave up when I went on holiday) until I had finished it. So, so glad it's over!
It wasn't all bad and there were quite interesting concepts. Some passages were even exciting. But there was way too much insider geeky 80s references in it and silly me had trusted the reviews saying you don't have to ...more

I felt like the last person on the planet who had not read Ready Player One last year when I received it from Book of the Month. It is really not the kind of book I generally read, young adult and techy sci-fi, but I thought with so much hype and all the 80’s talk surrounding it I would give it a try. I am really glad I did because I really had a good time with it! Like I said, I got it last year, but when I heard that it was being made into a movie I decided to wait to read it so the story woul

I picked up this book because my brother told me it was "candy good"
As a person who doesn't like technology I found it hard to relate with the charaters which is what makes a book good to me. Although I was born in 1982 pop culture has always alluded me. Missing the references to the 80s and not being "into" video games. I found this book as not something I enjoyed much.
However, the story was written in a such a way that I needed to know the ending so I finished it. Many would love this story, I ...more

I definitely enjoyed and loved this book. what a fun nostalgic read. It hits so many eras - the 70s, the 80s and the 2000s. I grew up in the 80s and am a gamer though not as prolific as some! I loved the game references, the movie references AND the music references. Rush, anyone ? definitely will re read this one.

Favorite things about this book:
- Attention to detail.
- Is this fiction or a prediction? Kidding, though the setting is a convincing possible future.
- 80's nostalgia galore.
- Coming-of-age piece was well done.
- Who doesn't like a good quest story?
