I loved this book for the first 100 or so pages, then I got a little bit bored with the monotony of the hunt for the Easter egg and the game within the game. I felt like I needed to fast forward VH1's Decade of the 80's to get to the resolution. I really wanted to really fall in love with this book, but I just couldn't, even though I am a Child of the 80's and still have my collection of Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks on one of the many bookshelves. Ultimately, I was annoyed at the length of the b ...more

I thought of my brother the entire time I read this and am buying him a copy for his birthday. It's a fun, nostalgic (almost too much), and exciting homage to video games, pop culture, nerds, and the halcyon days of the 80s and early 90s. I suspect it's a book best enjoyed by those of us who remember Pong, Legend of Zelda, and John Hughes movies the first time around. Everyone else will enjoy the movie, which Steven Spielberg promises will be great.

p.s. If you read and enjoyed the book, check ou

Wade Watts is an 18 year old living in 2044. earth has deteriorated and most people spend all of their time living in OASIS, a virtual game world. The games creator, James Halliday, died and left a hunt inside the OASIS, whoever solves it first gains control of Halliday's company and the OASIS. Wade is one of a group of people called gunters who are trying to solve the hunt while defeating sixers who come from a giant conglomerate trying to take over OASIS.
I found this book to be a lot of fun.

When computer genius, James Halliday, dies he does not leave his fortune or control of the virtual reality universe, he created (called the Oasis) to an heir. Instead, he created a contest within the Oasis where the first to find the hidden egg wins all his money and his company. James Halliday loved the 1980s and those searching for the hidden egg immerse themselves in 80s pop culture in order to figure out the clues left by Halliday. Wade is a high school student who has devoted his life to th ...more

Wow is all I can say. This definitely would not have been a book I would of picked up on my own. The only reason I read it is because so many booktubers kept talking about how great it was.

Well all I can say is glad that I read it. What a fun ride this story was. If you are into any type of gaming be it video games or old D&D then this will definitely peak your interest. Set in the future of about 2045 it also has that "minority report" feeling to it.

Mainly set in a virtual reality world, Oasi

Wil Wheaton did an awesome job reading this book. Lots of technical terms and 80s references, but the premise is interesting and the plot is engaging. Reminds me of Little Brother by Cory Doctorow.
