Great 80’s video game and movie tribute book and a fun read. Expected more but Ready Player One still delivered a great unique story.

Re-reading this one via audiobook, because I loved Wil Wheaton's narration of Lock In.

I really enjoyed this the first time around, so I have high hopes to enjoy it again.

So glad that I went back and listened as well. It was just as enjoyable for me the second time around. Wil Wheaton did a wonderful job as narrator.

Given the plot synopsis, I had been expecting a lot more adventuring and puzzle-solving and a lot less monologuing than there actually was. However, it turns out that Wade doesn't exist in the story to win the contest, he exists to be the reader's tour guide through all the corners of the OASIS that Cline dreamed up and thought were really cool. I read this for book group (books-to-movies discussion group since this will be a move in 2018). It's a cute story, a fun read, and even thought provoking at times. It's definitely most appreciated by folks who came of age in the 1980's, especially gamers (video, D&D, etc.). While the references weren't lost on me (and sometimes even fun), it got to be a bit much. I would be hard pressed to name a person to whom I'd recommend this book, mostly because of the limited audience to whom it's primari ...more
