What Members Thought

Absolutely loved this one -- one of the best books I've read in the last couple of years! There's a little of everything in this story: mystery, love, deceit, betrayal, adultery, incest, ghosts, fairy tales. Ultimately, it is a story about family, and the lengths to which people will go for those that they love.

Amazing writing, structure and plot. The characters I boned with. However, I hated the ending or rather I hated the way Eliza's story finished.

I'm a little annoyed that all the questions posed weren't answered and I found it long winded at times, but overall I liked the story and the characters.

I loved this story. I was uplifted by the tenderness of storytelling, touched by the intricate details that sealed familial characters together over 100 years of experience, and so satisfied that every minute spent reading this book, was so worth it. There were some details I figured out from the beginning, but the telling was so good that I never got bored. If you love mysteries, this is a must read. But be patient. It's meant to be enjoyed slowly. A perfect read for a rainy day or a long drive

Sadly, not my favorite Kate Morton. The writing is beautiful, but I didnt find the story all that engaging. There were too many POVs to follow (8!) and it wasn't even clear there was a mystery for most of the book. Once it was clear what the reader thought was true wasn't actually, the twist was pretty obvious.

One of the best novels I've read in many years. An excellent mystery, well written, with plenty of twists, turns, and red herrings.
