What Members Thought

grr! I hate when I type up a big review and goodreads decides to delete it!
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the writing style.I thought the love story was well planned out (and made sense, it wasn't just an attraction based on looks!!). I also liked the villain.
I love that all the characters are a perfect shade of gray - none are so good you can hardly look at them and none are so bad you want them dead.

Well I didn't dnf this book. I gave it a try. Never could relate to Juliette at all, nor the male characters that suddenly was so in love with the girl with the deadly touch. So that should tell you I didn't care for the instant love. Plus the scratch/line-out of the writing I didn't see the point of that if she was writing in a journal and telling us what she's writing then put a line through it would had been understandable but to be talking it didn't make sense at all to me

3-3.75 stars.
I've been wanting to read this book for a long time and overall I wasn't disappointed. Tahereh Mafi's writing is incredibly easy to read and for a young adult novel the prose is very eloquent and descriptive. In particular Mafi crosses out certain parts of Juliette's thoughts to indicate the battling thoughts and feelings Juliette is repressing. There is also a great deal of repetition and counting which gives an almost poetic feel whilst giving the reader the sense that Juliette i ...more

The prose/writing style in this book was REALLY annoying, but the plot drew me in. The main character is an idiot. The romance is silly. There are lots of really weird and sexist moments. And then it ended like a sad version of X-Men. I honestly don't know why I still liked this book. Maybe I just needed to read some harmless fluff where the good beautiful guys win?
