This was an interesting idea - based on a whole series of unusual photographs which the author had found, it seemed he weaved a strange story about a group of very peculiar children. The story hung together well, and didn't require too much of a suspension of disbelief, but I did find that at times it was shoehorned a little artificially into the photographs. A must read for anyone who's curious about fantastic ideas, parallel worlds and childhood dreams in which everything is possible. It could be a teen book, though in my opinion it is more than that.

So far I am loving this book. The absurd idea that grandpa's tales might have had some truth to them instead of being whoopers reminds me of Big Fish. Beautiful writing and loved the photographs.
