The ending was pretty exciting but, damn, it was a sllooooowwwww journey getting there. The first 90% of this book was pretty dull but necessary. Everybody tells me that books 2 and 3 are the tits and this one is more of an introduction. Which is why I sat through the entire thing. Otherwise I would have marked it DNF. And the kissing? Weird and awkward. If you want to get technical we are witnessing an 88 year old woman making out with a 16 year old boy. And said woman used to be the girlfriend ...more

2.5 stars. I'm not sure at all how I feel about this book. It's like the back cover that got me interested in it, and the actual story I read, weren't about the same thing, and this bothers me. I thought the big reveal of the secret behind the mysterious house came too soon: I had expected the whole book to be about that, with Jacob finding clues, discovering litte by little what had happened, discovering something horrible, alright... but I got something else, that probably wasn't as interestin ...more

The sstory is based on a collection of vintage photographs, those photos that are a little bit scary are weaved in to the plot so beautifully. It is a book filled with mystery, monsters and incredible twists. The author is also a screen writter and while reading I could imagine the scenes. I have the sequel in my shelf and preety soon I will read it.
This book is different a genre, one that I read for the first time and I know that I will read again both from this genre and from this author.

I hated the main character. It was not really interesting from his point of view. Even katniss in hunger games was more interesting.

I bought the others so now I have to read this whole stupid trilogy.
