I wasn't expecting a book about chimera, that's for sure. I liked the writing but I was expecting a bigger cliffhanger at the end. Nevertheless for ya fantasy this was a good one. ...more

Shelves: pick-me-a-winner-book-shelf, 2021-discovery-replacements

I actually was going to give this book 3 stars but I decided I needed to sleep on it. There was so much I liked but my gut reaction was the book was meh. Once I had time to think about the book and character I thought it deserved a 4 star. I liked Karou and Akiva but I also liked Brimstone and Iggy and Twiga.

I have to say I think this is my first book about angels (maybe my second book, I think Crescent City had angels)

I wasn't sure what to expect of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I'd heard good things about it, but I'm also wary of books with a lot of hype (and a PG13 movie deal).

It exceeded my expectations, this is definitely a book that straddles the line and can be enjoyed both by young adults and adults.

The world-building was unique and well designed. Laini Taylor takes the basic idea of Angels and Demons and turns it on it's head to create Eretz - a world rich with mythology, filled with seraphs and chime ...more

While the story was fairly original, and the beauty of the writing was exquisite, the story suffered from both lack of a concise plot, and poor pacing. For that, it barely squeaks out a 4-star.
