I really enjoyed this book! It was different and I loved that it's set in Prague - now I want to visit there. I also connected with the characters and worried about them. The only issue I had was with the second half of the book - the style changes. In the beginning it's a linear story one event after the other. However, when the big complication happens, the story events are flipped between present and past. Now, I don't mind flashbacks and enjoy reading them, but the way they are structured in ...more

"Hope? Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there's no actual magic in it, but when you know hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic."

LOVED, loved, loved this book. Perfect storytelling, interesting characters, timeless romance and a beautiful setting in one of my favorite cities, Prague. I can't wait to read Book 2.

I started off liking this very much and then my enthusiasm waned somewhat. Not sure why. The writing is good. I liked the premise of two groups, the seraphim (angels) and the chimaera (devils), fighting a war for so long they seem to have forgtten what they're fighting over. I liked the main characters of Karou and Akiva and the way their stories are revealed. The other characters are well done also. Karou is a seemingly human teenager raised by monsters - yes, literally monsters. Now that she's ...more

I absolutely loved this book!

Everything about it was perfect! There was enough mystery to keep me hooked to the last page. Karou was missing something from her life but she could never figure out quite what it was until one day a fiery gazed stranger tries to kill her in the streets of Morocco.

I couldn't even begin to describe this book and feel I was doing it justice. There are so many elements - past, present, future that all combine together to create an undescribable story that tells the st

I was honestly blown away by this book. Had it not been for the recommendations I saw for this book, I never would have picked it up. I am so glad that for once I listened to the recommendations and read it. Not only is it a completely original story, it is excellently written with just the right amount of pacing throughout the story. This is definitely one series that I'll be preordering the next book. ...more

While the story was fairly original, and the beauty of the writing was exquisite, the story suffered from both lack of a concise plot, and poor pacing. For that, it barely squeaks out a 4-star.
