It's been a long time since I last read a book that made me think of this word: epic.

I read a lot of fantasy and paranormal books, among others, and I read a lot about angels, devils, mythological creatures, other worlds in other dimensions, magic, and whatever else you can think of in the genre.

None of them has ever been as epic as this book.

There are no hobbits, wizards, dragons, vampires, fairies, or werewolves, in Daughter of Smoke and Bone, though there are angels and many really interestin ...more

Another gorgeously rendered world (or worlds) by Laini Taylor! I love her characters and mythology, and the way she twists the readers heartstrings most mercilessly! haha I must be a glutton for punishment. More please! :D

This is actually a reread of at least a portion of this book. I started when it was first released on recommendations from a bunch of friends, and when I found myself a bit bogged down (namely in the sections where (view spoiler) ) I just gave up.

But I gave up right before everything got incredibly interesting! I loved the reveal of why Brimstone collects teeth and the story behind the hamsas. C ...more

I loved this book and I loved it's world. I fell in love with the decidedly three different types of characters, as they muddled through trying to figure out what was currently going on in this world (and for Karou, in the last). I have to admit I did get a little antsy near the end when I was worrying whether this book had become just a reincarnation love story. But that had not stopped me from being deeply in love with other parts of it.
