Divergent is proving to be a tough book for me to review, because I finished it with very mixed feelings. The premise behind the story is quite good and intriguing, but ultimately, I felt like the execution was somewhat lacking and not quite up to the standard I expected based on the outrageously high ratings it has on GoodReads and other book-related sites. I can see why many are enamored of this book, but IMHO, it wasn't as good as similar books I've read. Because of it ...more

I had a few things to nitpick regarding the world-build and how believable the lifestyle of the Dauntless is (or isn't), but otherwise I enjoyed it a lot - kinda sucked me in.

Dystopian YA literature is becoming so fluffy these days! I really hoped for more from this one given its high ratings. This was a fast, easy, and exciting read that I was able to finish in approximately one day, so I will give the author credit for that. The main character is fairly dynamic and interesting. The premise is also fairly interesting (a world where people are divided into factions based on dominant personality traits....oh wait, scratch that, ONE dominant personality trait?) even if

I love dystopian society books. That being said, this was not my favorite. I liked the idea, it seems like so often we try to categorize people in such narrow roles that it almost seems like they are being assigned a single faction. Pointing out how little people diverge from what they know is an uncomfortable statement for me. Some things in this book frustrated me, like the idea that those in the Dauntless, or brave, factio ...more

Tris Prior lives in a dystopian version of Chicago where everyone belongs to one of five factions. When she turns 16 Tris is administered an aptitude test which is supposed to tell her which faction to join but Tris is divergent, she could belong to numerous factions. The story is mainly about Tris' initiation into dauntless, her chosen faction, which wasn't overly exciting to me. The action picked up more at the end. I also didn't mind the romance part of the story. I'll probably continue on wi
