I know this should be purely a book review and evaluated on its own merit, but seeing the movie meant I had a surprise or two that I had to adjust to.
I saw the movie – loved it. I saw it a few times actually. Started listening to the audio and was unbelievably disappointed by the book. How could this be? Usually when I see a movie first, reading the book is always a treat when I read all the additional details that could not be included in the movie.

I enjoyed this book well enough, but I was a bit disappointed; I think I was misled a bit by the previews for the movie. I expected a story about a girl who finds out that instead of having a faction she belonged to, she was found to be Divergent and she had to go underground with the rest of the people who had been classified as such. The actual story is that, after being found to be Divergent, she has a different faction marked in her results and she then chooses another group, the Dauntless.

So I'm a bit late to the party on this one. I've had it sitting on my shelf for a couple years, saving it for a day when I needed a really good book. But with the movie coming out I decided I'd better read it before the movie ruins it.

probably 4.5. a little predictable, but i really enjoyed it and felt 'invested' emotionally. good book. starting the next one today. :)
