I've had this book on hand for a while and I kept putting it off no matter how many people kept saying you should read this instantly. And? You *should* read this instantly. I read it in less than twenty-four hours.

This is so completely different and stand-alone and of itself. It's my second book that's gorgeously original this year. I love the main character. I love the slow reveal of the world. I love the hints of the future. And can not wait for the next one. ...more

Shelves: obsessions

I think this work gets a bad rap because of the success of the Hunger Games but I found this book to be very compelling and able to stand alone. The Hunger Games is not a Young Adult book in my opinion but closer to Adult Future Fiction, whereas Divergent is more in the Young Adult realm.

I especially enjoyed the character development of Tris as a young woman who goes from believing in her society to questioning its motives. A society that as a reader we know little about it's past. Everyone goe ...more

It took me a while to actually get hooked into this story, but I really enjoyed this book. This dystopian society is divided into factions that control different societal roles in the community. Tris, a 16 year-old girl, is busy trying to figure out who she is and where she really belongs. She didn't fit in her old faction and her new choice is proving to be difficult.
