This was an incredible book! I would say it had everything but it seems to have a lot of great stuff I never thought to ask for. Bone dogs, demon chickens, the perils of sleeping in a fairy fort, and evil Prince Charming, and (view spoiler). This is my first book by Kingfisher and it will not be my last!!

Nettle & Bone is the story about a princess who is on a quest to rescue her sister from her abusive husband, who happens to be a powerful prince. She is joined in her quest by a dust wife (a witch who talks to the dead), a disgraced knight, a fairy godmother, a dog made out of bones, and a chicken possessed by a demon. I really enjoyed this book. It had the feel of a fairy tale, but did not gloss over the dark side to being a princess. Marra is a strong female character, but she is not a chosen ...more

DNF at p.75, I got through 5 chapters & even that much was hard won. I kept waiting to see what all the fuss was about but I wasn't engaged by the tale nor the characters. I do wonder what the demon-possessed chicken did, but not enough to care. ...more
