Considering this is a famous classic, I didn't really enjoy it. I thought the writing was great - it was a wonderful study of unreliable narrators. But I disliked all of the characters so intensely that it made it quite difficult to get through. I have to admit, I cheered when Cathy died as I found her utterly abhorrent.

This book was very different than my preconceived notion of it. I am not sure what my preconception was based on, but while it was a love story, of sorts, it is more like what I would imagine would come out if Stephen King decided to write a love story. Everyone in the story is miserable because they are in love with someone and not honest about it and have to watch life play out in a different direction. I've heard this called a great love story by many people but I don't agree that it is a love story. To me it's a story of obsession, bad choices and enormous grief. The grief parts were realistic but I didn't care about Heathcliff or Catherine. I also found the fact that the story was being told in retrospect by the housekeeper to be annoying.
