Jade City is an excellent start to The Green Bone Saga Trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed the captivating characters, world-building, and magic system. Some great action scenes and loved the loyalty to blood and family. I'm starting the 2nd book, Jade War right away.

This is a true 5 star read for me, definitely a new favorite. I was hooked from page 1 all the way to page 495. Fonda Lee is a master at creating a world full of strong and flawed characters who live to protect their clan and their family. I have zero complaints.

This book definitely deserves all the rave reviews it has received. Lee has written an impressive fantasy epic with compelling characters and a vibrant world.

The book is set in Kekon, a mid-20th-century pan-East Asian analog (per Lee, it's inspired by East Asia generally, and is not modeled after Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc. specifically) - with cars and guns and phones.
