What Members Thought

This is my new audio book - I've listened for an hour so far and haven't stopped :) I'm intrigued!
I finished this weekend. I enjoyed the story - an insight into an assassin and how she became one and what drives her. Strong female protagonist is always welcome. I wasn't too keen about the romance - I just didn't buy it, but everything else was believable. And the climax was just right! For those following my reviews, you know I'm always complaining about the endings and how they're rushed or unb ...more

For a first in a series, this wasn't bad. I really loved Gin. I love a heroine who isn't afraid to take what she wants, do what has to be done and not shy away from real life. The magical elements of the story were interesting as well, and I can see lots of potential for the future books in the series.
However, there was a lot of repetition in this book (I think if I'd heard 'grey on gold' one more time I would have screamed) and a lot of times we were told things that we'd already been told on n ...more

First line: My name is Gin, and I kill people.
Thank you, Ms. Estep, for writing this book. First one in, and I'm feeling very committed.
After a major reading slump that lasted almost half a year, I needed this book (and this series) like I need manna from heaven, a cold drink on a hot day, the extra oily cabana boys down in Key West. A long urban fantasy series with some serious characters, plot you can sink your teeth into, and rich world-building that leaves you wanting to explore more.

Spider's Bite was a really enjoyable story. Jennifer Estep has crafted a fascinating world filled with elemental power and I can't wait to learn more about it.
Gin Blanco was pretty badass. She talked tough, but had the skills to back it up. I loved seeing her in action. I hope we learn more about her family and what happened to her in future books. Mainly I just want to know why they were targeted.

3.5 stars - not sure if I will continue this series or not. Good if you like an anti-hero, though
