It's hard to make an assassin a main character and make her or him a sympathetic character. Jennifer Estep did a superb job of doing this with Gin, aka The Spider. She is an assassin, but has rules she lives and kills by. She is double-crossed on a job she has been hired to do. Someone tries to kill her after the job. She discovers that someone is trying to clean up loose ends and, apparently, she is one of them.

Liked the elemental magic, liked Finn and Gin, not that into the cop, but however. There was quite a lot of ground-work laying in this book, but thats to be expected in a book 1, hopefully book 2 picks up the pace. I want to know more about her family too.
