"Rage and horror combined have a sour, stale taste"

This has a great, creepy vibe to it. The story is so well told that it feels like a movie you can completely see in your head while you read. The characters were perfectly flawed and real and kept you guessing the whole way through the story.

But this one fell on the ending a bit for me. Predictable in a few parts wasn't bad at all - it was even more horrifying because you knew well before those in the story did. But I want believability and I ju ...more

Shelves: drama, suspense, supernatural

I found this to be a creepy, yet fun and enjoyable novel. It’s rather like watching “Scream” or “I know what you did last summer”, a fun popcorn novel with some creepy parts and some campy parts. I mean, seriously, who goes off alone in a town like that? It is very reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project, only better, because there is no shaking camera the entire time. Apparently I'm the odd duckling here, but I am giving this 5 stars not because it is a great literary masterpiece, but because it was effective in sucking me in and creating a creepy, scary atmosphere that, at times, had me on edge. I will admit that this book is right up my alley - creepy disappearances, strange religious sects, and a Swedish author so it might have been inevitable. I also tend to rate books higher than others.
