So much fun to be re-reading the first introduction to Granny Weatherwax. What a woman! Acute, witty & well-written. Such cool beginnings in the world of Disc.

.Plodding through the eternal void is the great turtle A'Tuin. On his back (or hers - the question is unresolved) stand four elephants. And supported on the elephants' shoulders is ... Discworld, planet of magic and misadventure!

Predicting his own death, the wizard Drum Billet sets out to pass on his power and his staff to his predicted su

This was a fun read. It appears we've moved on from the main characters in the first 2 books to Eskarina (Esk) and Granny Weatherwax.

There was a slight mistake at Esk's birth that will lead her on her adventures. A wizard, Drum Billet, was looking for a man who was the eighth son who had an eighth son. In the Discworld, wizard are men and witches are women. That is just the way it is, until a wizard accidentally passes his magical power to a baby girl instead of a baby boy. No one is sure what to do with the girl, Esk, who is manifesting wizard magic. Granny Weatherwax, the local witch, takes the girl under her wing and tries to train her to be a witch. Soon it is obvious to Granny that the girl's magic is different than witch magic and she reluctantly decides to take Esk to Unseen University ...more

My second attempt at Pratchett and his famous disc world fell into my hand due to someone’s choose for family book club. It was on the shorter side, but it was not faster. You really need to concentrate or you will miss a joke, a complication, a new detail or made up world. It’s almost exhausting, but I powered through. (If I didn’t have a deadline I may have let this one sit around my bedside table for a while).
