I think this is the introduction to Granny Weatherwax. It's still an early Discworld, so there's a lot of humor and casual mix of slapstick and profundity. I was a bit put off by the gender normalism, which is more annoying to me in my old age. Also, I was skimming a lot of Beverly Cleary's Ramona books while I read this, and Cleary has a much better sense of what children are actually like than Pratchett, so Esk suffered a bit.

But definitely a fun and enjoyable read, and I should reread more Di

My second attempt at Pratchett and his famous disc world fell into my hand due to someone’s choose for family book club. It was on the shorter side, but it was not faster. You really need to concentrate or you will miss a joke, a complication, a new detail or made up world. It’s almost exhausting, but I powered through. (If I didn’t have a deadline I may have let this one sit around my bedside table for a while).
