Simone St James writes an atmospheric modern gothic thriller. This is the second of her book I have read and I have loved them both. (Although, admittedly, The Broken Girls was creepier.)

This book focuses on the creepiness of that odd motel just outside of the city. You know the one, you pass it up for the cleaner Motel 6 or Comfort Inn. (There is a comfort in the nondescript, anonymous chain motel.) And, this motel has a secret or maybe more than one.

Shelves: mystery-crime-suspense, paranormal, 2020-read

A solid, spooky read. Not as scary or as graphic as I had anticipated. Definitely more of a mystery than horror. I'll admit I had to flip back a few times to keep track of what time period I was reading about, because some of the characters act in the past and present. ...more
