What Members Thought

I started this book over a year ago and I really can't even say why I stopped reading it. 60% in and just stopped. Yet I was enjoying it. I think it just slows down for a large amount of time and there's chapters where nothing really takes place. If you can get past that, it's an absolutely beautiful story of love and honor. The end broke my heart even though I knew it was coming. Going into it was a lot of surprises because I never even bothered to read the synopsis before starting it. I loved

What a beautiful tragedy is the love of Patroclus and Achilles. I picked this book up knowing that it would end in heartbreak, and yet I still picked it up. It was deftly written, often lyrical like the Iliad that it was based off, and I let myself be swept into the lives of these two boys to their deaths. It was worth the tears and I am glad to have finally read this.

It is a beautifully written book. I was captured by the story immediately. I fell in love with Patroclus and the person he was and became. The emotions that are written in this story come through loud and clear. With certain events you actually deep down feel happy, sad, angry, etc. By the middle/end of the book I couldn't s ...more

An amazing retelling of the story of the Iliad that focuses on the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus. Review to follow when gushing, fangirling, and long paragraphs peppered with exclamation points isn't a threat.
