This was much better then I was expecting based on ratings I looked at. Enjoyable but never screamed out to me to keep picking it back up. The ending had an nice little twist that I never saw coming. Time to wait for the library to get a copy of the next book, because it's pretty much a to be continued kind of thing. ...more

Strong beginning, but the potential was kind of wasted along the way. So many boring scenes were stretched, filled with (whiny) inner monologue, not to mention the mandatory love interest/romancey bits I couldn't care about, that I lost touch with the Amy I was given to meet in the first chapters, as well as with the quirky, nightmarish version of Oz I had hoped to see her. And this is just the first book! I have no intention of reading the rest of the series because it seems like a really long-winded and pointless journey to me.

Honestly, it's not *that* bad, I've read a lot of worse books, it's just trying

As a lover of Gregory Maguire's Wicked, I was skeptical about this book. But the two don't really compare. Maguire pulls back the curtain and shows you what could have been going on behind the scenes in Oz, forcing you to question everything. This book picks up where Baum left off and goes off into a world where a power-hungry Dorothy has screwed everything up.

We get to know the heroine of the series (Amy--of Kansas) and some of the other "Wickeds" very well, as the book spends a significant am
