I read this book during the Jewish Day of Atonement, and this year was 18-19.9.18 from the sunset of Tuesday until the evening of Wednesday. During Day of Atonement, you fast from water and food and go to the synagogue. I fast, but don't go to the temple. During those hours I like to read different books. This time I was in the mood to read a chick-lit/rom-com, I went to my bookcase and picked it up. I read 2/3 of the book on Tuesday night between 19:00 until 03:30 on Wednesday and again from 13 ...more

Lots of phrases in dialects that I had to go to the end of the chapter to find the meaning to. Why? Everything else is in English, just do the phrase in English too. Foods, I understand that should be their original name, but phrases like “oh dear” can be in English.

It’s a romance book set in Singapore with crazy rich Asians thinking the poor girl is a gold digger and of course they end up breaking up.

Very amusing story about a Chinese American woman who visits her boyfriend's family and experiences the incredibly rich life style in Singapore. The beginning of the book is one of my favorite opening scenes.

My daughters think that some of the characters resemble my extended family. Shhh, don't tell my aunts and cousins.

With-reservations:
bullying, sexual innuendos & situations, prejudice, drugs, adultery

Crazy Rich Asians opened my eyes to a world that I will most likely never see. It was an interesting glimpse into the lives of some of the richest people on the planet and a good mix of traditions, both those of the Asian culture and that of the extremely wealthy. I found myself thinking of Richard and Emily Gilmore a couple of times.
