Rosemary and Rue is the first book in the October Daye urban fantasy series. Like many urban fantasy books, it has a strong female protagonist that battles all sorts of supernatural bad guys in her city (in this case it is San Francisco). I like how McGuire has incorporated fae folklore into the urban setting. The characters were interesting and multidimensional. I also liked how October was not perfect, she got injured a lot in the course of the story and needed a lot of help from others. She w

First of all, I want my very own rose goblin. Those creatures are so creative and unique and I loved them!
It took me awhile to get into this one because there is a LOT of backstory before we get the plot moving. I kept waiting for the payoff but it’s clear that particular score won’t be settled for some time. There were a lot of characters that helped the main heroine out and we weren't really told why or what their relationship to her was. I wasn't in love with this book like so many others, but I liked it well enough to conti

I haven't been reading urban fantasy that much lately. And usually my UF fare features psychics, shapeshifters and vampires. But this book called out to me. I have heard a lot of good things about this author, so I thought I'd try it.
I am glad I did. While it didn't blow the ball out of the park, it was a good solid story and did the world building really well. The story was engaging and I really liked the main character. I will definitely check out book #2. ...more
