Glad I’m done. If I was rating this book by the author’s note, I would absolutely give 5 stars. But, I’m rating this book based on the writing and story. It is another young adult, teenagers more powerful than adults, sappy, cheesy, magic thrown in for ratings, insta-love story. I know unpopular opinion, but that’s how I feel.

Sure, it’s YA but it features diverse characters and non-Western setting, I thought. Those are about the only things I appreciated about this book! The rest is a cliched mess with the chosen one being the last surviving everything and falling for a brooding, misunderstood guy. I kept telling myself they’re teens after every stupid decision they made, just so I wouldn’t pull a DNF. But then I found out what a spoilt, spineless a-hole the protagonist’s love interest is.
