What Members Thought

I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this book so I put off reading it for a bit. I was wrong. It was definitely a delightful read. Loved the entire world and the characters.
The magic system is very different from what I normally read and I enjoyed that very much. It appears to be based on a long line of tradition with ancient rituals with their gods. It drew me in quickly because it's not like fae magic or the normal type of magic.

Very much like the genre it comes from but different enough to warrant a good rating. Strong world building, fantastic use of fantasy to address present-day societal and cultural issues. Was boring and predictable at first but action packed towards the middle. Final 3rd/resolution lagged a bit. Tzain was underdeveloped. The romance/foreshadowed love triangle...blergh. Amiri was the only one with a lick of sense.

3.5 stars rounded down.
I really like the representation this book provides but found the characters not too interesting, the story nothing new and the romantic relationship really unrealistic. It wasn't too bad, parts of it were gripping and I will pick up the next book when it comes out but it won't be high on my to read list. ...more
