"A Man Called Ove" is my first Fredrik Backman, and I know it will not be my last one. Ove is a grumpy older man but a big heart (literary 😉.) Through the book, Ove touched many hearts, and you learn to love him with his quirkiness and the way he thinks.
I liked the way the author brought the stories from Ove's past. Ove has so many levels to him you will lose count trying to guess what he might do in any given situation. His reactions will annoy you, irritate you beyond belief, but at the same ...more

Charming tale of a curmudgeon who has a heart of gold. Highlights the value of surrounding yourself with good neighbors.
OK, so the ending is a round of joyful singing with kumbayas and grandkids and marriages, but to get there we spend a lot of time with a suicidal depressed man who is recalling all the worst moments of his life. I mean, it's funny the way all his suicide attempts fail because of happenstance; oh wait, it wasn't funny. Maybe I've spent too much time with depression.
