I've had "Ove" on my TBR list since the middle of 2016 -- and I'm not quite sure how I let so much time go by before finally reading this wonderful story. It was certainly a mistake putting it aside until this late date -- and especially when I've read other books by Fredrik Backman and know what a fabulous author he is and the bounty of his books.

"A Man Called Ove" is my first Fredrik Backman, and I know it will not be my last one. Ove is a grumpy older man but a big heart (literary 😉.) Through the book, Ove touched many hearts, and you learn to love him with his quirkiness and the way he thinks.

He is a cranky older man who wants everything to be just so. His life is orderly and he likes it th

OK, so the ending is a round of joyful singing with kumbayas and grandkids and marriages, but to get there we spend a lot of time with a suicidal depressed man who is recalling all the worst moments of his life. I mean, it's funny the way all his suicide attempts fail because of happenstance; oh wait, it wasn't funny. Maybe I've spent too much time with depression.
It's a good little book; you know where it's going all the time and it gets you there just fine. But there's a lot of grief along the ...more
