I heard so many good things about Amor Towle's writing, as well as "A Gentleman in Moscow." I got its recommendation by reading podcasts and YouTubers from our book community.
When I saw the book in my public library, it was a sign that "A Gentleman in Moscow" had to come with me home.

I LOVED THIS STORY! What a great surprise! This 30 year saga about Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov was simply divine. Seen by a Bolshevik tribunal as being an unrepentant aristocrat, Rostov is placed under house arrest inside the Metropol Hotel across the street from the Kremlin in Moscow in 1922. Having always been called your excellency and known as a consummate gentleman of means, Count Rostov is forced to moved out of his luxurious suite into an attic space smaller than any space he could have ...more

What a delight from beginning to end. Count Alexander Rostov survives the Russian Revolution of the early 1900s only to be confined to the Metropol Hotel for the rest of his life. It is wonderful to follow him as he makes the very most of his confinement and reveals that in all circumstances he is ever a gentleman.
