I really wanted to fall in love with this book.

It has magic, a magical carnival of sorts no less, a private island, evil fathers, rogue sailors, I mean, what's not to love?? Unfortunately, I just got really tired of Scarlett complaining all the time. It's a typical fantasy story annoyance. i.e.: "gosh there is so much awesomeness happening around me that I am ignoring because of personal problems" *SIIGGHHHH* At some point, STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR SISTER DAMMITSS! lol

I had such high hopes for this book and series and I was completely disappointed. It was quite mediocre the whole way through but I was prepared to give it 3 stars, up until the ending, which felt so lazy and convenient to me that I couldn't give it more than 2 stars.

It was all so juvenile and nonsensical, and there were so many holes in the plot. I didn't like any of the characters at all, and even Julian, who was supposed to be the most appealing and was portrayed as such, didn't appeal to me

A lover of The Night Circus, I can definitely see why people says if you loved that you'll love this. This book was full of twists and turns, evocative of all kinds of magic. I was stolen several times by the new and delightful ways the author described the main characters feelings.

I loved the relationships between the sisters, and how that goes from the beginning through to the end. How they are there for themselves and for each other, and how you have to get to the end of the book to understa
