3.5 stars (would've been 4 stars, if I liked the ending better) Book about an Irish girl, Lavinia, who becomes an indentured servant for a Virginia plantation after her parents died during the passage from Ireland. She works with the black slaves and they become her family.

I've been hearing about this book for the last few months. I knew it was one that I wanted to read. Historical fiction has always been interesting to me, especially when it deals with social issues.

The Kitchen House did not disappoint. It's story will stay with me for many years to come. ...more

As a matter of fact, when I was sorting through books to sell at my yard sale last spring I discovered I owned 2 copies of it. But once I finally started reading it... Wow.
