What Members Thought
I had read this several years back and never moved on... silly me.
So, I decided to re-read this (listening to the Audible) in preparation to read the series (and maybe watch the show... I haven't gotten a Starz subscription yet).
This is a wonderful historical romance with the added twist of time travel. A nice twist is the fact the heroine who does the time travelling isn't from our time, she's from just after WWII. This brings a nice double layering of the historical novel.

Reading this book was quite an experience for me. It was more than just a book written by an author. It was a beautiful world created by an artist. And she did more than just tell a story; she took me on a journey. A beautiful, romantic, funny, touching, heart-wrenching, soul-searching journey.
Jamie and Claire's love story was an incredible one. Their love was slow to come and once it did, it was all-encompassing, deep-rooted, and absolutely breathtaking. I loved their relationship!

So it’s obvious that this was researched. And there are some well-written parts of this book. I’ve had this recommended to me and it’s part of my Thick book challenge. I’ve been trying to read this physically, electronically and via audiobook since 2015, but it took a friend saying they would watch a movie (which to be honest I’m rethinking because this book is way worse than the movie in the original agreement). Also, I love the idea of time traveling and Scotland, so this takes a lot to make m

Jan 24, 2018: Still 4 stars. I enjoyed the book like before but unlike the last time I am more interested in seeing what happens next.
I enjoyed the story but I found it to be a tad too long. I would have been perfectly happy to see the story end a little sooner then it did. Will I read the others? Not really sure, as I'm happy to see it as a stand alone, (view spoiler) ...more

I liked the book. The book has time travel and history of the Scotish people's and their clans. The other side of the story is how would you react, in an instant everything g you knew is gone,. H

Claire knew it is gone. I think the author has done a great job. The Story draws you in so that you can become the characters and live in a time long gone. I personally could have done without all the "physical Contact". I would recommend this book to any one who loves history, romance novels- j ...more

I feel like maybe I read a different book than everyone else who just adored this one. I didn't care for it at all. It was way, way too long for one thing. Could have been shortened by at least 500 pages, and probably been much improved. But even then, I didn't really like the writing style, so while I may have liked it slightly better if it was shorter, it still isn't for me.
