What Members Thought
I had read this several years back and never moved on... silly me.
So, I decided to re-read this (listening to the Audible) in preparation to read the series (and maybe watch the show... I haven't gotten a Starz subscription yet).
This is a wonderful historical romance with the added twist of time travel. A nice twist is the fact the heroine who does the time travelling isn't from our time, she's from just after WWII. This brings a nice double layering of the historical novel.

**2015 Reading Challenge W/Josh: #1 A Book With More Than 500 Pages**
This book could have been amazing. If it were about 300 pages shorter. I enjoyed parts of it. The writing was superb though. I will give it that. And the narrator of the audiobook did a terrific job.
Everybody kept telling me that once you get past the first few chapters you'll get to a point where you can't put the book down. I found that not to be the case. There were certain parts that were exciting and kept me glued to the ...more

Jan 24, 2018: Still 4 stars. I enjoyed the book like before but unlike the last time I am more interested in seeing what happens next.
I enjoyed the story but I found it to be a tad too long. I would have been perfectly happy to see the story end a little sooner then it did. Will I read the others? Not really sure, as I'm happy to see it as a stand alone, (view spoiler) ...more

I liked the book. The book has time travel and history of the Scotish people's and their clans. The other side of the story is how would you react, in an instant everything g you knew is gone,. H
Life as s
Claire knew it is gone. I think the author has done a great job. The Story draws you in so that you can become the characters and live in a time long gone. I personally could have done without all the "physical Contact". I would recommend this book to any one who loves history, romance novels- j ...more

The beautiful love story of Jamie and Claire :)
It starts with a 27 year old nurse called Claire in the year 1945, childless but happily married to Frank Randall and living a quiet life in post war Scotland.
One day she goes investigating a plant she sees in a stone circle, when she suddenly gets pulled in and finds herself in the year of the Lord 1743 about two hundred years prior her time.
She encounters Frank's six-time great grandfather Jonathan Randall otherwise known as Jack Black. Then gets ...more

I enjoyed the historical details, and the character of Jamie. But honestly I did not enjoy the prose as much. I read because I had heard there were certain scenes in here that were different from the series, and was a bit disappointed overall. Also... Some consent issues in this book, which have not aged well, and don't make Jamie look that great, personally.
