Gritty, raw and full of horrors. This book physically turned my stomach. It was hard to read,so I just read it in one big....gulp of a day. I tried not to get too far from it, and tried to shield the pages from the eyes of my family. Half the time I was completely mortified and disgusted by what I was reading. The other half I was plotting and comparing notes, trying to ignore the trysts and bad decisions our poor Camille was making.

The end wasn't shocking until I got to the very VERY end. Wow.

This is a dark and disturbing book. There isn't a single character who comes out looking good, in true Flynn fashion. Camille, a deeply disturbed woman who has tried to release herself from her pain by carving words into her own body with a knife, returns back to her home to cover a story of two murdered girls for her newspaper. This was one twisted book! Glad I stuck with it though...it really kept me guessing, which I love when that happens

Camille Preaker is a newspaper reporter in Chicago. Her editor assigns her to return to her hometown in Wind Gap, Missouri to report on the disappearance of a young girl and the murder of another young girl 8 months ago. Her editor believes a serial killer may be at work. Camille has to deal with her very disturbed family including her mother Adora, half sister Amma and step father Alan. A good but very dark thriller.

Masterful, riveting and heart wrenching. Human pain at so many levels. Reading this was hypnotic as levels of manipulation and heartbreak are revealed. The human psyche is truly fragile and this book exposed things like an open wound. Fascinating and heartbreaking.
