I was hoping I'd love this book, since I had really liked the first one; unfortunately, not so much.

I keep liking the world, what we learn about Red London and a bit more about the world around it (the other empires, the seas and their trade, etc.). Agghhhh!! V.E. Schwab you are so mean for doing this to me. Now I'm going to be totally distracted until I can get a copy of A Conjuring of Light!

I love how Schwab writes, it's such an elegant and graceful style paired with a riveting plot that slowly ratchets up in tension. While I'm not giving it 5* (reserved for books that are really mindblowing in some way), I still consider this book VERY good. It's definitely going to hold a place as one my favorite series! It is a pretty typical second book in (what I assume will be) a trilogy. It leaves you wanting to read the next book in the series but you don't get a lot out of this particular book.

We see more of what became of Kell, Rhy and Lila following their adventures in the first book. And some new (and very entertaining!) characters are introduced.
