I have a hit-or-miss with Victoria Schwab's writing; there are books of hers I enjoy and others not so much. As fantasy is a genre that I don't read a lot, I heard so many things about the Shade of Magic Series and wanted to give it a try.
While reading A Darker Shade of Magic, you find yourself entwined in a web of mystery and intrigue, where the lines between reality and fantasy blur. Even though I previously read books with dark and mysterious tones, this book is supposed to ...more

Plot was good, setting was strong, characters were well defined but didn't really catch my interest. That's probably a flaw in me rather than the book. ...more

I enjoyed this. It's a really quick, easy, and fun read. The characters are very colorful and it's a great, original concept.

I didn't love it though. I never felt particularly hooked by the plot and the characters, while colorful, can be rather one-dimensional at times. I really don't have any specific complaints, it just wasn't a novel that I really felt all that connected with.

But it's a great book if you're looking for something easy and enjoyable, with a hint (ok a lot!) of magic. ...more
