3 stars - Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
So this is an obvious Beauty and the Beast fantasy retelling with faeries. I also saw a few hints of the Twilight and Hunger Games series, but maybe that's just me. I liked the story, but it was too long-winded and could've used some editing. And Feyre drove me nuts.
Honestly, I'm kind of surprised it's a series. If there had just been another chapter or two and/or an epilogue, I think this would've worked fine as a stand alone story and not needed any more bo ...more

REREAD again LOL 4/18/25
My daughter and I decided to reread this series. I have reread it with numerous groups before but never with my daughter who actually introduced me to this series or author for that matter. I never mind rereading this series. I think it's one of my all time favorites of all time and it's like visiting an old friend when I decide to reread the series.

I will admit, I had some trouble getting off the ground with A Court of Thorns and Roses.
The story is a retelling and I felt that much of the beginning was unoriginal. Granted there was the introduction of the Fae to give it a spin, but the basics were all there and predictable. The cursed Beast who is running out of time. The curse that keeps a masquerade mask in place on the face of every Spring Court Fae (instead of turning them all into animate inanimate objects). The Beast who is trying to ...more

Considering the fact that I liked it so much the first time around, I wasn't expecting to have one of those "keep reading the book way past when you really should have already put the kindle down and gone to bed" moments this time around.
But I did. Twice.
Last night I finished it and immediately started in on A Court of Mist and Fury.
#fingerscrossed that things stay this good. ...more

I am really unsure of what to rate this. While I enjoyed the story, the protagonist, Feyre, was a walking contradiction that I had problems wrapping my head around. Feyre is supposed to be a huntress with keen senses, but she made some of the most stupid and poorly planned decisions. She teetered a line between bravery and stupidity. She often threw herself into confrontational situations with a species she had no knowledge of, all whilst brandishing weapons that she knew were not adequate. S ...more
