Madeline is divorced with a teenager and two younger kids from her second marriage. She's friend with Celeste, a beauty with twins and a seemingly perfect life. They both befriend Jane, a single mom. All three have kids starting kindergarten. From the beginning you know someone dies at the schools trivia night but it takes most of the book to find out who. I liked all three women and their stories. I think the events of the trivia night were a bit of a let down considering all the suspense leadi ...more

Wow. I was worried about how thick this book was when I picked it up from the library after a lengthy wait on the hold list, but I couldn't put it down! I didn't care for the vehicle the author used for the unfolding of the story (the journalistic quotes about an event that we haven't gotten to yet in the timeline). I found it confusing to introduce disembodied character names that way, but setting that aside, this story was surprising which is impressive given that the subject matter has been w ...more

I always like finding new authors to read, and when I find a new author that I like, I get really excited (but my wallet may not!). I have found a new author in Liane Moriarty—I definitely look forward to reading more from her.

Three women meet at the start of Kindergarten year at an Australian, suburban school. Events at the school lead to a death, and while the rumor mill is alive and well, the three women form a strong bond. Whom dies is a mystery, but has been teased from the beginning of th

This is the second book I've read by Liane Moriarty, and I've loved both of them. Her books are just so engaging and hard to put down. Big Little Lies was a great book for me to read right now. I would probably consider it fluff writing, but sometimes when you have a lot of other things going on in life, it's nice to have something to read that you don't really have to think too much about.

That being said, there are a lot of serious issues that are brought up in this novel. Sometimes it got to t

Big Little Lies is a story about a group of mothers whose children all attend the same Kindergarten class. What first appears to be a story about cliques within the school community, eventually turns into more as truths about the characters are revealed. In the beginning of the book, we learn that something bad happened at the school's trivia fundraiser. Then the story is rewound to reveal the events leading up to trivia night and eventually what happened and to whom. This book did an excellent ...more

Loved it! I watched the show before I knew it was based on a book and even though I knew who died, it was still a wild ride. I will have to find more by this author for sure
