**2015 Reading Challenge W/Josh: #4 A Book Published This Year**

Holy shit. This book was amazing! It has been compared to Gone Girl but I hated Gone Girl. This book was so much better! I listened to the audiobook and I have to give props to all 3 of the narrators. They were perfect. Just perfect. Many people only gave this book 4 stars saying that it was because none of the characters were likable. But I actually loved that about the book. All of the characters were a hot mess. Each in their ow

New-to-me author and a new psychological thriller makes for a great weekend of reading.

Same train - every morning - everything the same - until one morning when Rachel sees something shocking and then nothing is the same again.

This tale is told from the POV of three different voices - one is an alcoholic, another a liar, and the other a cheater, making this story even more intriguing. Behind closed doors no one can ever be sure what is taking place.

An impressively written dark and gritty thrille

3.5 stars. Interesting enough to keep my attention and to keep me reading, but I never could muster up much sympathy for any of the characters, so I never really cared what happened to them. I just wanted to see how it ended.

THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN is a dark, haunting and depressing psychological thriller, but it's incredibly effective thanks to the writing skills of author Paula Hawkins. This rather bleak story with intersecting timelines is told from the viewpoint of three different women Rachel, Anne and Megan. All the women are unreliable narrators with something to hide. In fact, most of the characters in this novel, including the men, lack veracity, and are a self-serving and unsympathetic group with plenty of s ...more

3.5 stars. Strange, dark tale about strangers whose lives become intertwined thanks to a troubled woman. High rating for me, since I didn't like any of the characters. I think I was captivated with the strange little surprises that kept appearing.

Likes:
* Rachel speculating about people in houses
* Idealized Jess and Jason, but not truth
* Cathy, Rachel's patient but put-upon roommate/friend

What can I say? There were times I really enjoyed this book, and then others that I wished the author would hurry and get to the details I cared about.

I loved the fast paced pull and drive behind the murder mystery thriller, that made up most of the story. However, I felt the story became bogged down with emotional baggage and the predictable actions of characters.

When all was said and done the ending was kind of underwhelming. Although there were a lot of hidden details brought to light, I felt

I really enjoyed this....until the end. Most of the book was very exciting and suspenseful, with twists continuing to pop up making it challenging to predict what was coming. All of the characters are flawed, some extremely so, but (most) at least had their redeeming qualities, making them feel human and real. It's hard watching Rachel continue to make mistake after mistake, even when sober, but the unreliable narrator aspect made it all that more intriguing as the reader tries to sort through t ...more

I'm probably six months behind everyone in reading this, but it was worth the wait. This book was well-written and kept me guessing right up to the end. I was afraid this book was going to be a watered down version of Gone Girl, but it wasn't. There is a similar feel to the story (in a "if you like Gone Girl, you'll like Girl on the Train" kind of way), but it is a very different book. I highly recommend this one and will look forward to reading more from Ms. Hawkins. ...more

My husband and I listened to this on our vacation. Having one of the three narrators be an admitted alcoholic was an interesting twist, especially as she struggled to figure out what happened during her blackouts. The changing perspectives also added to the suspense and allowed the reader's views of the three main female narrators to evolve. But we figured out the who done it part by halfway through the tale. ...more
