What Members Thought

This has been the most surprising book of the year for me. Nothing about this book even hinted at me liking it. Not the concept, not the synopsis, not the movie trailer... nothing. And the possibility of me reading it was made even less likely when I realized my library did not have the audiobook so I would have to actually use one of my coveted audible credits for it. Trust me, I don't just use those willy nilly. So I said thanks but no thanks and moved on with my life. But then this book kept

What Andy Weir lacks in writing style he makes up for by telling an exciting, compelling story. I was into this one from the beginning, even though it sometimes reads like a math problem and he overuses the word "yay." I actually look forward to seeing the film version because the story's good, I think it will play out well on the big screen, and Matt Damon is one of the few actors I trust to make a movie about a book and not screw it up.

I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and engaging. I didn’t enjoy the swearing as it limits me sharing the book as much as I would without so much language. But it was still a good read. I loved the science even though I didn’t understand any of it. And I loved how ingenious Mark was. At one point while listening, I was making a pumpkin on wheels for a pumpkin race, and I felt bonded with Mark as I built and had to figure out my racing problem. I’m seriously not as ingenious as Mark. But rea

This was the best book I've read all year. I knew the movie was coming out soon starring Matt Damon and I wanted to read the book first. Saw it at the bookstore and had to have it. It pretty much immediately became my purse book and I managed to find the time to read it in a happy medium between devouring and savoring slowly modes. It is going on the Keeper Shelf, something I rarely do. If you saw Mt Git'r'Read, you'd know why I can't have much on the Keeper Shelf.

Funny and very techie. What a wonderful read, but I realize that some people would find it dull since it's a lot of science and killing time.

Probably one of the best books I will read this year.
I went into this without knowing anything about the story. I haven't seen the movie and I've stayed away from any spoilers, so I was blind. About halfway through I needed to google the ending in case I needed to have a mental breakdown.
I've been listening to it non-stop today and am loving Wil Wheaton's narration. ...more

4.5 I'm not going to pretend that I understood all of this and that I didn't glaze over through some of it but it was such a good book (and fun audiobook)!
