NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!

You can't end a book like that, Mr. Ness. But to be honest your entire book was just like the ending. Keeping me so engaged into the story and making it really hard to put the book down!! Luckily, I am one of the readers that gets to read all three books without having to wait for them. ...more

Very rarely do I love and HATE a book as much as I do this one. But, the fact that I hate it is the reason I love it.

The development of the world and the cast of characters was just amazing. It was slow and steady, never giving away enough about someone to let you know who they were.

And I enjoyed the constant reminders that everyone could hear what he was thinking. The reminder as people responded to his thoughts with words, or when he heard someone's Noise and had his own thoughts about it.

A very interesting, sci-fi plotline about humans colonizing on another planet and hearing the constant thoughts of everyone around them. The constant "Noise" literally drives people insane, the never ending barrage of thoughts, feelings, dreams, images, 24/7. The story is told from the perspective of a 12 year old boy who tries to escape from his settlement after finding out that they were harboring a horrible secret, only to find that hiding is damn near impossible when the enemy can hear your ...more

This book still haunts me years after reading it. It needs serious trigger warnings and I wish there was such a thing on Goodreads because I never would have touched it with a ten foot pole had I known what was going to happen or the way it was going to happen. The overwhelming amount of positive ratings seriously baffles me.
