"Gentlemen Bastards." hissed Locke, "do not abandon one another, and we do not run when we owe vengeance.”
It's been years since I read this the first time - so many years the only thing I could remember is thieves, twists in plot and much profanity! And I still loved this one the second time around - still full of profanity and funny quotes as these boys grow up and get to know the thieving life. It's interesting trying to keep the storylines straight as they tell one back story with another bac ...more

Locke Lamora runs a gang of con men called the Gentlemen Bastards. Together they pull elaborate cons that target the nobility. The characters were fun anti-heroes that I was routing for the entire book. It took awhile to get used to the author's use of flashbacks and unconventional timeline, but once I did I appreciated how the

By the end of this book, I was absolutely hooked and it deserved 5 stars, but it was let down a little by what was, in my opinion, a slow beginning. It really took me about the first five chapters to get into it fully. The world created by the author was so complex that it was sometimes difficult to follow, but once I had got my head around Camorr and semi-Venetian feel of the city, I really began to enjoy it. Locke was very likeable because he was flawed and his companions and the lifestyle the
