An incredibly depressing YA novel about a teenage girl who has to decide whether she wants to stay or pass on after a tragic car accident leaves her in a coma. It left me with the whole “be grateful everyday because life can change in an instant” mentality, but it was a little hard to see that through all the depressing tragedy and flashbacks.
I live in Oregon, so it only seems right that I read a book with the setting I know! Too bad there isn't much about Portland, Oregon in there ~ but enough references to make me smile.
All in all though, it's just a sad tale. The choice. It's so sad and devastating and awful and wonderful and surprising and all those things and more to believe....our loved ones are trapped, stumbling around, with a choice and grappling with it. I watched the movie prior to reading the book. I have to say that the movie was a very good adaptation of it. Simple read but filled with a lot of emotion.
This is one of the rare books, imo, where the movie was just as good.
